What it actually does
Open Design is a local-first desktop app that makes your existing coding agent the rendering engine for design work: prototypes, landing pages, dashboards, slide decks, images, and video.
The part that separates it from a chat interface that produces mockups is export. Output is real files in real formats — HTML, PDF, PPTX, MP4 — that you can hand to a client, present in a meeting, or ship. Not screenshots of an idea.
It is bring-your-own-key across Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, OpenCode, Qwen, and twenty-plus other CLIs, so it uses the subscription you already pay for. There is also a paid cloud model service if you would rather not manage keys.
